In 2004, Mark Staples felt the time was right to explore new mediums that go beyond the two-dimensional. Seemingly bent on blurring and
obliterating conventional stylistic boundaries, his newest creations in metal and mixed media sculpture release a torrent of ideas in seductive abstract expressionism that transport the viewer both
above and below normal levels of rational thought. Incorporating an intricate personal symbolism into his sculpture, bright colors, plants and abstract organic forms proliferate in his imagery.
Borrowing from his skills as a painter, Staples employs vibrant colors in great variety, applying stunning
blues, yellows, reds, and greens to the metal.
“I continually strive to capture moments in time from the ordinary world around me and infuse my
creations with drama, importance and the magic found in nature…..such is the force which nurtures my work.”
